2025 was a year of adventures, both big, like travelling to incredible Oman and trying a campervan road trip for the first time, and small, like discovering more of Slovenia, and most importantly, spending time with loved ones. It was also a special year at work, bringing important communication projects to life, some of which took me on exciting work trips. Life, as always, reminded me of the importance of health, family, and savoring every beautiful moment. I’m deeply grateful for all the wonderful memories we created, both at home and abroad.

1. Travelling done in 7 countries
Austria
The Austrian capital, Vienna, is one of our family’s favourite cities, and in April 2025 we returned for another lovely few days. We appreciate its family-friendly vibe, with fantastic playgrounds and plenty of activities for kids. In fact, one of the most-read posts on Marshmallow Travels comes from our previous visit: “Our 6 Favourite Activities in Vienna for a Toddler.”

France
September was dedicated to a two-week road trip through Provence in a campervan. France is a dream for van travel, thanks to its excellent infrastructure. It was an unforgettable holiday, I loved Provence’s beautiful villages, and of course, French wine, olive oil and cheese. We visited: Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque, Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Bonnieux, Briançon, Èze, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Fréjus, Gordes, Gorges de Verdon, Lac de Serre-Ponçon, Lacoste, Les Baux-de-Provence, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, Nice, Pont du Gard, Roussillon, Saignon, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Sisteron, and Valensole.

Germany
Thanks to my amazing job at Slovenia’s biggest airport, I travelled to Frankfurt for work twice this year, in May and October. And finally made time to explore the city beyond the airport. In this post, I’m sharing my tips on how to make the most of 8 hours in Frankfurt.

Italy
In July, we enjoyed a coffee and a leisurely stroll through Tarvisio. Followed by a refreshing swim at Lago del Predil, surrounded by stunning mountain views. On our September campervan road trip, we drove from Slovenia through Italy on our way to France. We made a short but delicious stop in Turin for pasta and pizza, followed by a stroll through the city centre. Highlights included Piazza Castello, the Royal Palace of Turin and its gardens, the elegant Galleria Subalpina arcades, and the iconic Mole Antonelliana. In December, we went to Gorizia and Trieste to enjoy some Christmas cheer. We visited the cities’ Christmas markets, a special art exhibition in the tunnel beneath Gorizia Castle, and took in the sea views in front of Piazza Unità d’Italia.

Monaco
We couldn’t travel to Provence without also visiting Monaco. From Nice, we took the train to Monte Carlo and spent the day exploring this tiny country on foot. Along the way, we watched the changing of the guard at the Royal Palace, wandered past the famous Casino de Monte-Carlo, and walked parts of the Formula 1 circuit. We also visited the Princess Grace Japanese Garden, the Casino Gardens, and the Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium. We loved how surprisingly green Monaco is. Although its limited space means it feels quite crowded, with tall buildings rising everywhere.

Oman
In February, we explored Oman, a lesser-known jewel on the Arabian coast. In 9 days, we discovered its dreamy beaches, historic cities, lush oases, refreshing wadis, and colorful souqs. We visited Bahla Fort, Bimmah Sinkhole, Daymaniyat Islands, Jabreen Castle, Misfah al Abriyyin, Muscat, Nizwa, Sur, Wadi Bani Khalid, Wadi Shab, and Wahiba Sands. It was one of the favourite trips we ever did. You can read all about our trip here.

Slovenia
As every year, we also made time to explore our beautiful home country, Slovenia. The highlight of 2025 was definitely spending four days in Bovec in July, surrounded by the emerald waters of the Soča River. I also attended a two-day conference by the seaside in Portorož in May. We visited Koper with family that month. We went to the capital of the Štajerska region, Maribor, twice. Once in June to explore Mariborsko Pohorje, and again in December to enjoy the Christmas markets. In spring, we took a walk to the stunning Lovrenška jezera. My husband and I also visited the luxurious thermal spa Rimske Terme for the first time. Of course, we also spent time in our home city of Ljubljana. Enjoying the Days of Ljubljana Castle, the National Gallery and a performance at the Slovenska Filharmonija.

2 new countries visited
In 2025, I visited Oman and Monaco for the first time, bringing my total number of countries explored to 54.

2. Most popular on the blog
For the second year in a row, “Our 6 Favourite Activities in Vienna for a Toddler” has been the most-read blog post of the year. I guess it’s time to update it with some fresh ideas from this year’s trip to Vienna. The post however more than doubled its views in 2025 and reached over 6,000 readers.

3. Life lately
I am truly fortunate to do what I love for a living. Working as a communicator at the heart of a unique airport environment, it’s a special role. Sitting behind a screen to shape communication strategies, craft messages, and organise events. And then wearing a statement yellow outfit, talking with colleagues on the apron, admiring aircraft, feeling the pulse of the terminal. Enjoying those special glimpses into the airport’s behind-the-scenes world. Priceless. There was also a special project that defined much of my 2025 at work. Preparing a new internal magazine for employees. And if you look closely, you’ll find my name as Editor-in-Chief in the colophon.

Thank you for reading along, and here’s to a happy, healthy, and travel-filled 2025!
