About

Hi, my name is Vanja and I welcome you to Marshmallow Travels!

Vanja Vodenik travel blogger Marshmallow Travels

I am a traveler, who is working in PR and living in Ljubljana, Slovenia. From November 2016 I also call myself a travel blogger. I try to use all of my free time to go somewhere new or re-explore somewhere I have already been.

As the name of the blog suggests, I love marshmallows and travelling, not necessarily in this order. I also love writing, exploring, laughing, reading, collecting countries, airports and stamps in my passport, and did I mention travel?

I blame my parents for my everyday wanderlust which led to this travel blog. It all started in February 1998 when my parents took me with them to Sri Lanka and Maldives. This was my first big trip! I was in the first year of Primary School and in order not to miss too much of my education my parents made me practice writing by starting my first travel diary. I stuck with it to this day.

Travelling also led me to write travelogues for my high school newspaper called Ferkl. Later I became the editor of this newspaper and fell in love with journalism. So naturally this is what my studies were about. I also spend one year of my Bachelor’s Degree in Madrid, Spain, which proved to me that on top of travelling, I also don’t mind living abroad.

So today I am in the first half of my thirties, I have traveled to 45+ countries, tried travelling with my family, friends, solo, for work and conferences, with travel agencies, on budget and not so much on budget, stayed in hostels, hotels, Airbnb apartments, casas particulars, tents, motels, campers, tried a lot of means of transportation, visited all the continents except Antarctica, which honestly with me freezing all the time is not at the top of my bucket list. But on it you will find all the other countries in the world.

A lot has changed in 20 years of my frequent travels, for example, technology developed greatly so I gathered it was time I move my travel diary from paper to the World Wide Web. Here I will share all about my travels and things I learned along the way.

Thanks for checking out my web page and don’t hesitate to hang out here! You can also follow me on FacebookInstagram.
